The article discusses the need to study the predictors of harmonious functioning of the personality of workers in risky professions. It is noted that in the field of extreme and crisis psychology, researchers mostly focus on the negative aspects of professional activity, such as stress, emotional burnout, anxiety, etc. The authors emphasize the importance of shifting the focus of research to positive functioning, in particular, professional well-being. Studying its prerequisites will contribute to a better understanding of employee self-realization, factors of job satisfaction, and increase the effectiveness of professional activities.
The main purpose of the study was to examine the complex role of personal characteristics in assessing the professional well-being of SES employees (N = 207 people; age range 19-55 years; 93,2% men, 6,8% women). Data were collected mainly through the online service Google Forms. Statistical analysis was conducted using sequential multiple regression, which allowed us to assess the complex unique contribution of each studied parameter to the integral indicator of occupational well-being.
The results show that the greatest influence on the professional well-being of SES employees is exerted by an integral psychological resource - the psychological capital of the individual, even when controlling for the variance of autonomous and controlled motivation. The dominance of controlled motivation in the professional activity of a rescuer negatively affects his/her well-being, unlike autonomous motivation. Tolerance to uncertainty contributes its unique variance to the explanation of well-being, i.e., it is a valuable professionally important quality for SES employees, helping them to effectively cope with unforeseen situations. At the same time, emotional well-being is a key element for maintaining internal balance, which indicates the need to pay attention to the emotional sphere of employees, in particular through measures to support their psychological state. Together, these variables explain 65,4% of the variance in occupational well-being.
The study also found that socio-organizational factors such as gender, age, marital status, education, and professional experience have a limited impact on occupational well-being. Their role turned out to be statistically insignificant, they do not explain the additional unique variance of the dependent variable when controlling for the psychological variables described above.
